What do you hope to gain from participating in the CORE RISE Scholarship Program?
I am Othello, an 18-year-old Ghanaian American academic scholar-athlete who is a gifted visual artist and a track runner. I was told that I was the only child who entered the world not making a single sound, as if I was waiting to be born. I’m beyond humbled and grateful for the blessings I received. I have been accepted to several colleges based solely on my academic merit. There have been several colleges that wanted me to come to just focus on being an athlete, but I am committed to being a scholar-athlete who focuses on academic work first. Fortunately, I received two small scholarships, but I still must raise $25,000.00 to attend my dream school at Howard University. My daily routine consists of school, practice, virtual programs, homework, and applying to scholarships. This application will be the 48th scholarship that I will be applying to and counting until I reach my goal. Thank you for the opportunity to consider funding my education and allowing me to participate in your program.

I hope to gain financial knowledge that I can then use as I start maturing more and start living my life as an adult. I hope to gain more knowledge of how saving money is just as important as investing money. This scholarship will lessen the burden on me and my family. It will help me be less worried about my financial status for this upcoming semester and allow me to focus on the semester and my final year so I can graduate and finally join the workforce and support my family.
