Hi, this is Steven Jiang from Penn State. I was originally from the Abington campus for the first two years, and then I transferred to University Park to finish my degree in mechanical engineering. Like mechanical engineering, which is a very broad field, my academic journey has been an interesting exploration of potential career paths.
During my time at Abington, I was honored to begin working as a research assistant in my second semester under Chemistry Professor Dr. Kim, and we developed a new method to calculate molecular wave functions. Through this research, I built valuable skills and opened myself to more opportunities. In the summer of my second year at Abington, I was fortunate to conduct another research project with Dr. Okutsu, focusing on testing the mechanical properties of eco-friendly concrete.
For the last two years, I’ve been working closely with Dr. Rattner, who is my research supervisor, to complete my honors thesis on developing flexible joints for space applications.
